Course info
Applicants without a Master's degree may register for an MPhil with the possibility of transfer to PhD, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period (usually one year full-time or two years part-time). The awards of MPhil and PhD are normally achieved through a sustained piece of original investigative research and the presentation of a thesis. Candidates may also submit for a PhD award via a PhD by Publications route. UWIC provides all its research students with expert supervision and facilities relevant to their chosen area of research. Research projects are supervised by a minimum of two members of academic staff, with one acting as the candidate's Director of Studies. All research degree candidates undertake an induction and training programme that better equips them to undertake their chosen research programme. The training programme is available to all students accepted for admission and is usually undertaken within three months of enrolment. Research within the Education School; Education and Politics & Humanities, comprises: Education Bilingualism; Welsh Education; Gender issues; Mentoring and partnership; Narrative and biography; Art Education; Welsh Political history, Contemporary history, Liberal Political History; Electoral theory and voting; Labour Party and Europe, Sport and Politics; American and British relations; English literature associated with Iain Banks and Phillip Pullman, Children's literature; Fantasy and horror literature, history of horror.
