This course provides you with training in specialist areas of set and costume design and realisation, equipping you with the relevant knowledge and skills to maximise your employment potential within the theatre, film, television and related performance-design industries. Our undergraduate course is aimed at providing you with a solid foundation in theoretical design and its practical application in relation to performance. This course will provide you with tuition in a broad range of practical skills including technical drawing, CAD, pattern cutting, costume construction, millinery, tailoring, jewellery, model making, scenic art and props making. Research will form an important part of your work, and throughout the course you will participate in field trips and lectures relating to the history of art, architecture, design and costume. In addition, you will work on a series of conceptual projects which allow you to explore your creative identity unhindered by practical limitations. The programme is highly flexible, allowing you to concentrate on particular areas of interest through advanced skills classes, conceptual projects and performance-based work in your second and third years.
